Beautiful 26 x 20 cm silver plated copper sweets stand, divided into two levels with a floral look and handcrafted with a delicate and elegant "malileh kari" or filigree design achieved thanks to the exceptional skill of the craftsman with the fine metal wires.

They are the creators of one of the most elegant and delicate crafts in the country. Its origin is estimated to be between the 6th and 4th centuries BC, during the time of the Achaemenid Persians, and although the originals are made entirely of silver or even gold, it is more common today for the base to be made of copper, a fairly flexible material, and for it to be silver plated for the final finish.

The great beauty of these filigree works has given them the status of luxury ornamental pieces, although they can also be used for practical purposes such as tea sets, candlesticks, trays, candy dishes, mirrors or fruit bowls, and they are also used to make jewelry. The exquisite designs are achieved by joining and then welding fine metal wires that are curled, twisted or braided depending on the design, and whose difficulty gives it an exceptional value that has been appreciated in private collections, museums and homes around the world.

The city of Zanjan has been recognized as “World City of Filigree”, a title awarded to it by the World Crafts Council. You may be more familiar with the famous Cordoban filigree made of silver, widely used in the making of jewelry; this artistic technique was introduced to the Iberian Peninsula after the invasion of the Arabs and adopted a particular form, reaching its splendor during the Middle Ages in Al-Andalus.
