Who are we?

Welcome! I am Sara, a 37-year-old from Madrid with roots in Leon and a special predilection for the Eastern world and its artistic manifestations. I undertake this dream from the deep love and respect I feel for two countries that in one way or another have left an indelible mark on me:

• Iran, the country of origin of my now-husband and who has been my confidant for over 9 years: Amir, who is also in charge of all the technical side and photography for Kervansara. Ancient Persia, an ancient land with an impressive legacy and a deeply hospitable people, about which unfortunately there is still a great lack of knowledge in Spain; which has absolutely stolen my heart and which I hope to continue discovering on many future trips. Long before I met my dear Iranian friend Maryam in Madrid, 16 years ago, I was already curious about this civilization by choosing the elective course of Persian art history at university. Its great cultural wealth and exquisite craftsmanship have won me over and I would like to be able to make known such a heterogeneous heritage with such delicate and beautiful works.

• Turkey, which captivated me from the first time I set foot in Istanbul back in February 2009 on our unforgettable end-of-degree trip. After a few months of internship at an incoming travel agency living in that wonderful city and 12 times later repeating destinations and traveling through different regions, how could our path not be somehow connected? So many years of being interested in its fascinating culture and seeing that no matter how much time passes, that magic in my eyes is never lost, I have decided to name and shape that feeling through Kervansara. I am aware of the great interest that Turkey has been awakening since its famous series began to be broadcast, at the beginning of 2018 in Spain and much earlier in Latin America, specifically in Chile in 2014.

I have carefully and lovingly selected each piece to offer you the widest possible view of the variety and beauty of the artisanal products that are still being made today in this part of the world. I wanted to pay tribute to the traditional arts typical of each country but also to give visibility to young artists who, with their talent and by applying ancestral techniques, modernising designs and colours, create true works of art.

Surprise your loved ones or clients, add an exclusive piece to your collection or simply treat yourself to a truly special gift! If you have had the chance to visit Iran, Turkey, or better yet both, I hope to transport you back to unforgettable moments and memories through our products. If you haven't been yet, all the more reason to stay with me and take us hand in hand into this fascinating world.

In this space you will find a multitude of classic Persian and Turkish crafts together with more contemporary ones and a wide variety of designs inspired by its most emblematic monuments, in details of tiles, paintings, sculpted reliefs... as well as in its literature, poetry, calligraphy, manuscript illumination, weaving of carpets and kilims etc. I have also included some of its gastronomic emblems so that you can enjoy them at your fingertips.
