Wooden mirror decorated with enameled Persian miniature with a design of horsemen (chovgan), illumination (tazhib) and marquetry (khatam kari)

Rectangular wooden mirror measuring 27.5 x 22 cm, hand-crafted and painted, elegantly combining several traditional arts in a single piece.

The corners of the frame are decorated with miniature paintings with beautiful gilded designs created using the delicate technique of illumination or "tazhib", and the sides are decorated with bright and colourful traditional enamelled relief designs. The figures on horseback carrying sticks allude to "chovgan", the ancient national sport of the aristocracy that originated in Persia as a training for cavalry units and is today considered the predecessor of the modern game of polo. Its importance in Persian cultural and artistic tradition is such that in 2017 it was included on the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The edges are decorated with the laborious technique of "khatam kari" (marquetry), which gives a special shine and an exquisite finish to the whole.
