Rectangular wooden painting measuring 28 x 23 cm, hand-crafted and hand-painted, combining various traditional arts into one unique piece. The central image is a beautiful miniature design by the master Manouchehr Sartipi depicting the spectacular Naqsh-e Jahan Square in Isfahan, one of the largest in the world. The famous Shah Abbas I of the Safavid dynasty ordered the construction of the square and turned Isfahan into a beautiful and prosperous capital known among travelers as “the middle of the world.”
In the scene, two of its most emblematic monuments can be distinguished: in the background, the Shah Mosque with its large dome and characteristic iwans and, to the right, the Ali Qapu Palace with its famous portico. The camel caravan in the foreground was probably heading towards the Imperial Bazaar, located at the northern end of the square, loaded with valuable goods from distant lands, since Isfahan was a very important stop along the Silk Road.
The luxurious and delicate technique of illumination or "tazhib" has been used in the frame with beautiful geometric-floral designs in which the golden colour takes on a leading role, while the laborious art of "khatam kari" (marquetry) has been used to finish the edges and sides of the work, giving it a special shine and an exquisite finish.
